Ack! I guess the Laserdisc masters must've been pretty lousy! :-(

I have a 40" Samsung 16x9 LCD projection TV and watching the tapes (remastered reissue, widescreen) and the widescreen broadcasts last week, I too was disappointed and can only wait for the inevitable (this is too big a movie series to NOT have on DVD eventually) release of DVDs.

One plus on waiting? Well, I'll have saved up enough for a THX certified audio system for my TV!! :-)
