I think he would have first asked him what it was. He was an english lit guy, not a true archaelogist. Then he would have asked him how he got it. Young indy would slightly lie. Old henry would press and turn red in the face, then start asking questions in a cross examination type fashion. Eventually he'd get stern and express extreme disappointment.

young indy would then try to explaint things to him, but old indy would tell him that he should have gone to the police, and that he has embarassed the family. Old henry will then give the cross back and report the matter to the police, who then forget about it.

young indy goes out and plays with the dog,the only one who listens and understands him. He decides that when he grows up he will hardly speak to his dad for a years at a time because he is convinced his dad is more interested in people who have been dead for thousands of years in another country than him.
