To the extent that James Bond has been well done by several actors, I agree with you that it's not impossible for a character to be successfully portrayed by several actors. Depending upon the character. The problem with Indy is that he very much *is* Harrison Ford. So many of the things that make the character appealing are unique to him. The "reluctant hero" facial expressions, etc are all Ford exclusives. Bond seems to me to be more of a caricature than a person. Indy is great because that's exactly what he's not...which also ties him inexorably to the man who plays him.
