I remember the Mae West line, as well, from the children's audiotape version of the movie. It had all the soundtracks from the film (actual dialogue tracks, John Williams music, and Ben Burtt sound effects), with a narration by John Rhys-Davies (if memory serves). It had more than one alternate dialogue track, including the line "Fly, yes; land, no!" delivered a lot more humorously by Harrison Ford than in the final cut. In the Gruenwald Castle scene, the butler says "..zen I am Mae Vest--!!"

The accompanying picture book has some cool extra photos, including a long shot of Indy aboard the plane studying the Grail diary on the trip to Europe, Indy being escorted into Donovan'z apartment by goons, and a shot of Indy, Sallah, Marcus, and Prof. Jones watching the explosion by Donovan's men dynamiting their way into the canyon of the Crescent Moon.

Remember that a lot of these novelisations are written while the films are in production, and the writers aren't always privvy to last-minute production changes. One line from the LC novelisation I WISH was in the film, is when Elsa tries to explain her loyalties to Indy, while he's tied to his dad. "Indy, that wasn't my real reason for keeping the colonel from killing you." "Yeah? You must be the good Nazi I keep hearing about."
