I think part of the problem is that we're so used to Harrison Ford as THE actor to play Indiana Jones that imagining someone else in his place is kind of odd. Selleck's a good enough actor (even allowing for his cinematic misdemeanours like 3 Men & A Little Baby/Lady).

I think my point of view is that Selleck would probably have played Indy more towards the sarcastic, daring adventurer and left the jokier, more human characteristics out. It could have turned out like "Magnum PI in a fedora".

Ford played Indy with the right mix of adventuring spirit, human touches (especially in Last Crusade with his father) and believability.
