: Does anyone have any idea why it could be that at the end of the Raven Saloon scene in RAIDERS, right after Indy breaks a table over the Giant Sherpa, and the Mongolian points a gun at Indy, right next to the Mongolian's head we see a small American flag that is on fire? Could this have just been a mistake, or do you think we were specifically meant to notice? The INDIANA JONES movies are not the kind of movies in which you want to spread political messages (except anti-Nazi ones), so I wonder if the burning flag has any significance (I hope not).

: Your take???

I suppose it could've been symbolic, foreshadowing the eventual struggle by the US versus the Nazis. This doesn't really make too much sense to me. I figure since the bar was burning, a lot of Marion's stuff (the flag included) caught fire.

PS The official way to dispose of a faded/torn/overworked American flag is by burning. Its supposed to be done with much reverence, however, and the ashes must be treated with respect. According to my scout friends.
