Roaches?

You know how roaches scurry into the nearest dark hiding spot when you turn the lights on? Maybe there's a very sensitive pressure plate with the light shining on it. Around the plate the place is seething with roaches. When something blocks the light to any part of the pressure plate, the mass of roaches naturally spreads evenly across whatever part is dark, and Bam! skewered Sapito.
