The burning swastika is a fortelling that nazis made a big mistake thinking they could use the Ark to further their dasterdly plans for world domination.
The rat belonged to the movie animal handler and was deaf and had an equilibrium problem, which in this case made him a natural scene stealer, looking as though he is overcome by the Ark's power.
