I didn't mind the changing of Sallah and Marcus so much however...

: I do recall some time back reading that they had to re-write Sallah's part somewhat for LC, as he came down sick on location and was down for almost the entire time they were supposed to shoot his scenes, therefore they had to cut his part down quite a bit. I, too, think that Marcus was treated quite shabbily in LC as compared to Raiders, but have to admit that I also laughed at the same places that everyone else did when those scenes first appeared on screen. It wasn't until later reflection of what I had seen that this opinion was formed to how they had mistreated the characterization of old Marcus. Regards. Michaelson

I might have some sort of an explanation for why Marcus changed from Raiders to LC. None for Sallah, since he, like the soldiers in Saving Private Ryan say, is FUBAR. OK, despite Marcus' bumblingness in LC, I still believe he's a smart dude. Where in Raiders did we see him in action? Nowhere. He stayed in New York (or whereever that University is) and shot the breeze with Indy. How do we know that Marcus wouldn't have been the same bumbling fool we saw in LC? Besides, before Marcus went to the exotic locale, he was still very much the same kind of dude we saw in Raiders. In RofArk he said "If it were 10 years ago, I would have went after the Ark myself." In retrospect, this very much explains why he is foolish in LC. It could mean that now he is in no condition to be in those types of adventures. He's good back in the museum, but incompetent out on the fieldwork. I know, I know, this probably made no sense to you fine people reading this post but that's just me. Well, that was my half-assed attempt to justify the Marcuses. :)
