Think of the number of takes each seen has, the movie could go through a lot of food if they had to keep doing the scene over. Not to mention all of the preparation that would be involved, keeping it from being spoiled, keeping it warm... that sort of thing. You'd get full after 3-4 takes. It's also tough to eat and talk at the same time, which is how most scenes are played out, the conversation is primary (especially in romance movies), the eating is secondary, and who wants to watch someone talk with their mouth full? Not me. And while we're at it, when do they go to the bathroom? Nevermind, I don't want to know...
