: : That is the major problem. Speilberg wants a million players sold before he releases his films on DVD. But he is part of the problem (FOX is the most to blame)as to why a million players haven't been sold. Paramont just announced in April that they are going to DVD, but they will not release anything till the end of the year. If all the studios and directors embraced DVD like they should then more players would be sold.

: So if a million DVD players finally get sold, Speilberg will probably release all his movies on it? If Paramount starts releasing a lot of movies at the end of this year, I would imagine that would boost sales...

It is sort of a Catch 22, Spielberg did indeed make that statement, so unless you have enough players, no movies. But unless Paramont pushes out a lot of movies, there won't be that many player made to be sold. No one wants to make the initial heavy first investment. A lot of folks in the business got burned when the Beta/VHS wars were taking place years ago. A lot of folks in the industry either invested heavily in movies in Beta, some in VHS, or some in both to cover their bets. Only winners were the ones who invested ONLY in VHS. The industry is a little gun shy, and has been for quite a while. And yes, I am in the business and have this literature cross my desk literally everyday. Regards. Michaelson
