On the question of conversions, or "re-chambering" the Webley Mark VI .455 pistols, the work was only done on the back surface of the cylinder and extractor. The cylinder was removed and mounted in a lathe and a cut was made to create additional space on the rim end to accomidate the added thickness of the U.S. .45 Colt service round in the half-moon clips designed for use in our Model 1917 Colt and S&W cavalry revolvers. After WWI American ammo companies started making a round called the .45 Auto Rim specifically for these pistols. Since the only conversion on the Webley .455 was to the cylinder, those large brutes that have been treated thusly will now accept this type of brass for reloading. Lee makes a die set for the .455, and if you decide to reload, PLEASE use the right slug - 260 grains of lead that is .457 inches in dia. Our .45 bullets are only .451 in dia. and actually fall through the bores of these big fellas!
