: : This has been puzzling me for "I-don't-know-how-long" about Indiana Jone's purpose of going after the artifact(s). I know that the artifact(s) are priceless and that they're a part of history.

: : But what is his TRUE purpose?

The purpose is simple. It's his job. He's an archaeologist, and his job is to preserve and study things from the past. Nice theory about greed. Stuff dealing with things in our lives is what George Lucas has done for over 20 years.

Perhaps Indy will undergo a change in the next film. He might just start believing in, I hate to say it, but "hokey religions and ancient weapons". :-)
