I *personally* and this is only my opinion, not a statement of fact, prefer to use supersharp scissors for trimming and a teapot for steaming.

I steam the front brim very lightly and then hand roll over a clean rolling pin.

Steam as little as possible, and smooth carefully and firmly.

Depending on the look you want, you'll either roll a lot (like Raiders) or less TOD, or least LC.

P.S. I've not experienced the shrinking others have. Odd, eh?
