Mixed opinions on that. However there are those, who I tend to believe, who say cotinued heavy use destroys the "little gray cells". There is modern Pernod, without the wormwood, which has a high alcohol content, and was prooduced from 1915 on, when the French government outlawed the original Pernod absinth. It could be that Belloq had some of that. It has quite a kick, and without the bitter taste. You just have to like licorace.
