: What are some movies, TV shows, or literature that Indy was inspired by or the Indy genre has inspired? I seem to see the leather jacket, the fedora, and the gun and holster in many movies and TV shows set in deserts, jungles, and outback environments.

I want to see where Mr. Lucas and Mr. Spielberg got their ideas for the character and costume.
