Donuts or bagels? The eternal question. Both existed in '36, I can assure you. Bagels, believe it or not, were hard to get in the 1930s outside of Jewish neighborhoods. Now they're everywhere, thank God. Donuts were rather American and most likely wouldn't show up on the streets of Cairo. So I would have to go with some sort of bagel-esque bread twist or something. Jeez, I can't believe I'm agreeing with James! God help me!

: OK, here's something pointless I noticed while watching Raiders last night for
: the first time since... oh, since January or February (sounds shocking, doesn't
: it? :) ). Anyway, I was watching with my brother James, and we had a bit of
: an argument (well, minor) over a certain factor here. Ok, in the Streets of
: Cairo scene where Indy is being shot at by the Arab dudes in turbines driving
: the truck and being mauled by a bunch of weird beggars. After that, he
: shoots them down with his revolver. In the background shot where you see
: him shooting, there seems to be some sort of food stand selling what looks
: to be donuts. My brother argues that it's bagels, not donuts. I said donuts,
: he said bagels, and so on.

: Ok, tell me, am I right or wrong? What is that food? Did bagels or donuts
: exist in 1936? If not, that would be some sort of anachronism (I think that's
: the word, correct me if I'm wrong).
