:
: I stumbled upon this while searching for pages about transits.
: (Yeah, I know I'm a loser) It is an antique-finish brass compass
: that is hand-made to highest quality specifications by a company
: in California, who pattern their products on those of a British
: company that made such items in London over a hundred years ago.
: The company is called Stanley London.
: The particular item that I discovered is a compass that looks
: like something Indiana Jones would have carried. You never see
: him with a compass in the movies, but he does use one in the
: books, if I recall. Kind of like how, in Peril at Delphi, he
: carries a backpack, but never in the films. Well, I took the
: liberty of making the C.C. Filson Rucksack Indy's "official"
: backpack, as it looks like something he would have had. And
: the quality is certainly there.
: Anyway, check out this URL and try to tell me that this
: isn't a really cool-looking, functional, and high-quality
: item that our hero might have carried? I'M ordering one!!!

: Adventure awaits!

: P.S.- I say we make this an official item at indygear.com

After some thought on the matter, I recall that Indiana Jones does,
in fact, rely on a compass in three of the novels, one being
Indiana Jones and the White Witch, and again in Indiana Jones
and the Philosopher's Stone. I believe he also makes use of
a compass in Indiana Jones and the Hollow Earth, as well.
I'm sure that there are a few other instances, but these elude me
at this time of night. Feel free to add to this list the other
novels in which Indiana makes use of a compass. Then we will have
built a substantial case for the reason to purchase a compass, in
addition to the other standard Indy gear items.
It also gives you something to keep in the Mk-VII satchel. I keep
my Raiders holster, whip carrier, Geier kangaroo gloves, and a tin
with candles and matches inside my satchel. Now I will have a
compass to add to that.
