I've wondered if a more supple leather would be a better choice for the carrier. To me, surface friction is the key to the whip not sliding about. If the leather were pliable it would conform to the shape of the coils better and increase friction. The other important part is the grain on the inside of the carrier loop surface. To me it should be unfinished, with all the knubby "pulp" cowhide can have. With what you have with the stiffer, Kepler model what do you think? The carriers I've made so far support this design idea thus far.
