He was doing a lecture for the whip group, which was what I was there
for- and he was explaining how the trick works where you whip somebody
and the whip cracks heavily past them, then continues around to wrap
them, but how the energy had already been dissipated, so the whip can
no longer hurt them. And that it was a visual trick. I raised my hand
while he was in the middle of talking, and he acknowledged me. I finished his explanation for the benefit of the crown because I already knew what he was going to say. The he asked me if I would help him with a demonstration. I said yes, and walked up there. I handed
him my 12-foot David Morgan. He played out the length of the whip
behind him and I stood away, arms at my side. He explained to the
group how he was going to snare me with it. He then proceeded to try
it three times, but my whip was too long. He recoiled it and asked
me, "How long is this whip?" I replied, "It's 12 feet. I got it from
David Morgan." To which he commented, "David Morgan makes his whips
a little on the heavy side." So he hands my bullwhip to some other
guy, and gets a black 6-foot whip out of his own bag and proceeded
to snare me with it three times around the waist. I was totally
cool and calm because I knew how it worked. But it was fun.
The other highlight of the Con was meeting Lauren Muney, the cute
redheaded project coordinator. She was really nice, too.
