"Saving Private Ryan" is not a showcase of nationalities that took part in the World War II.
It is about the war itself. And it is about Americans that fought it. This war, like every other,
had a price tag to it. American soldiers that were KIA (killed in action) are part of this price.
The movie is about them, and only them. If you think such potrayal of war distorts the young generation's
perception of it, well - this only means the young generation has a problem - it receivs its history education in
a movie theater armed with pop corn and soda instead of in a classroom armed with a pen and a notebook.
If you are worried about teens - they should go back to school. Steven Spielberg can stay and keep making good shows.
The movie is not intended to teach about the history of war. It is meant to teach about THE WAR. Any war.
If you feel that every non-american was severely underrepresented in this picture, I have a cure for you, my friend.
Imagine that all American soldiers shown - from the dead soldiers' bodies washed ashore in a crimson tide at Normandy in the
beginning of the movie, to the soldier who's heart was cut in half by a German knife, slowly sliding into it -
all the soldiers - are Canadian. Or French. Or English. Or Russian.
