Go to this FoA updates page at LucasArts web site: http://support.lucasarts.com/patches/indy-fate.htm

Then download all the updates and then see if your sound doesn't work, if not, it's because your sound card cant emulate old SB and SB16 settings, and the updates don't support your sound card. But the updates should work.
