We need people with the drive and passion to go that extra mile. Even if you aren't at Patterson's level, you've got to respect his enthusiasm. It is truly shameful that there's this hidden contingent (at least to the eyes of the Forum) sniping at people and harrassing them via email and phone (for God's sake! *smack* that's for blasphemy). Most of the Forum posts that have been somewhat "anti-nitpick" have been so out of irrational fear. This is the kind of thing that goes on in other fandoms all the time. Star Wars and Star Trek fans analyze things to the finest detail, making self-elected "patriotic" fans angry. If they would just calm down and realize that the attention to detail is born from an intense (dare I say?) love of the subject matter, maybe everyone could get along.
