: It is interesting to see all these messages from Canadians putting down Saving private Ryan as "altered history". I have lived in both the United States and Canada (by choice my residence American). Canada made important contributions to the war, way out of proportion to its population size. HOWEVER, I'm sorry, but it was the Americans and Russians who won World War II. Instead of complaining about "hollywood W.W.II", why don't you make some programming of your own? Why not? Because you can't. The only W.W.II program produced by Canadians during the last ten years was some socialist drivel from the C.B.C. Canada's national identity is so fragile that citizens accept government controls on what they can view, read, and listen to (called canadian content regulations). It is not an accident that Canadians have nurtured close ties with Castro's Cuba. Perhaps they should listen to some Cuban exiles living in thew U.S. BOTTOM LINE: Canadian's fathers and grandfathers who fought in corvettes, lancasters and at Dieppe went to war to protect a country with America's value system. Its fitting that the best tribute to the Canadian soldier is Saving Private Ryan, a film produced by an American.
