I experienced a similar disappointment a few weeks ago. There was a Raiders screening in a park in Mill Valley (N-CA) and it was not full frame either! Also, they started before it was really dark. I could barely see the boulder! However, of the few hundred people present nobody seemed to care about the butchered Raiders. Ironically, there was a (prop) guy from ILM present... :(
