Speculation and planning regarding the "special editions" of the original trilogy had been going on for years, ever since the early 1990's. I understand that the majority of the work started roughly late 1995. Lucasfilm and Fox had made this information public at the time, and posters announcing their return hit theaters around the fall of 1996.

If RAIDERS or the INDY films are to be released, give it a generic three month window before they hit the screens.
