: : This rumor, over at coming attractions, says that Natalie Portman, of SW episode 1 fame, has approoached Lucas and asked him if she could play Indiana Jones's daughter in the next film. Is this good news or bad news....

:       ... she would very likely try to follow her dad on whatever adventure he goes on in the movie. Of course, he'll do his best to try to stop her. Besides her being Indy's daughter (and him not wanting anything bad to happen to her), another reason why he would try to stop her is that it "wasn't proper" for young ladies to adventure like that (remember, the film will most likely be set in the 1950's), so it'll be interesting to see how she deals with that. :)

:       But who would the mother be, and who would play her (even if she's just in a flashback, in case the mother died some time before Indy IV takes place)?

Um haven't I seen a thing where, the hero doesn't want the child to get hurt or something.... Rambo III, for instance! Um for the mother... um how bout Michel Pfeiffer
