I really liked the movies based on Clancy's books, but I despise the books themselves. Clancy always bitched and moaned about how Hollywood treated his books, but I have no doubt that, for a change, they were improved upon by the filmmakers. Clancy has great research behind him and develops good story lines, but his dialogue is always as bad as James Cameron's ("Titanic", need I say more?). Maybe if this new script would've deviate a little more from Clancy it would've worked.
Just my opinion. Cueball

: Here's a link to a script review of Akiva Goldsman's early draft of The Sum of All Fears (which would have been Ford's next movie).

: At the time, it was said Ford was having trouble with a clumsily written meeting between Ryan and the Pope, as well as several things that didn't seem as timely as they might have when the book was written. The studio itself is said to have voiced doubts about the Super Bowl/nuclear bomb thing, as it was too much like Black Sunday.

: Personally, I would still like to see Ford as Ryan, but I'm not sure why they were so determined to adapt this story. Obviously, trying to coerce Ford into a script he didn't like did not work out well.
