: : I have had my Aldens for over a year now and have been very impressed save one thing - the heels.

: : First the rubber heels have worn down to nearly nothing - not very durable. Also about 3 months into wear, the leather piece in the heel just above wood and before the sole began falling out in small chunks. It's nearly halfway round the heel in the right boot and starting to stick out in the left.

: : Anyone else having this problem?

: I, too, experienced that, but only had one of the wooden shims fall out of a heel, which I had reglued by a cobbler near by, and have had no problems since. My heels are getting pretty run down too, but this is after daily wear of 13 months. Not to shabby considering. You must walk a LOT more than I do, but I agree totally with your observations. Regards. Michaelson

Well, I checked, and it really looks like a layer of wood! Why do they use it? Does it have some superior properties? So far my only complaint was that shifty tongue of my right boot...
