Short-staffed

Concerning the length of the staff: Indiana shorty is correct. The stated height of the staff does not match the actual article. It's a goof.
While at the Imam's house, the following dialogue occurs between Indy, Sallah and the Imam:
IMAM: This is a warning not to disturb the Ark.
INDY: What about the height of the staff, though? Did Belloq get it off of there?
IMAM: Yes. It is here. This was the old way--this means six kaddam high...
SALLAH: (Interrupting) About seventy-two inches.
IMAM: (Irritated) Wait! (He turns the headpiece over.) "And take back one kaddam to honor the Hebrew god whose Ark this is."
INDY: (To Sallah) You said their staff only had markings on one side. Are you absolutely sure? (Sallah nods) Belloq's staff is too long...
INDY & SALLAH: (In unison) They're digging in the wrong place.
Later in the movie, we see that the staff is taller than Indy: before he climbs down into the map room he grounds it next to him while he scans around for trouble and it's a little taller than him; also when the sun is focused on the location of the Well of the Souls through the headpiece, there is a shot from behind Indy showing the staff in it's hole on the ramp, and Indy standing next to it, shorter than the staff. The shot includes Indy's feet right next to the staff.
Wow! That was a long post! Guess I'll go back to lurking now.
