Indy's staff is shorter...if you think about it, if he takes it back 12 inch, it is going to (theoretically) be about 6 inches smaller, because of the new distance away from the resting place.

If you were to edge up to the hole that the sun shines through, and both staffs were in their respective postions, you would see Belloq's staff befor you saw Indy's. In order for it to "appear" the same size from that POV, Indy's staff would have to be longer!

Do you understand what I mean, cos I am beginning to feel like i'm losing all perspective on reality!
