Well, I believe there is also a veg tanned mahogany horsehide available through FS. It is darker then the russet, and has a bit more of a red tone to it. When they described to to me, it sounded like a description of the original, so I've requested a sample. The original was a dark brown with a reddish hue under light. You do get a flavor for this in the pre-truck chase scenes, i.e. on horseback the jacket has a reddish tone. The bar scene has some of this too, but I believe this sequence has been so altered with respect to lighting that making color distinctions based upon it are not well advised.
