Yes, you are indeed wrong. There are several scenes in all three films where you can clearly see the configuration. As for the 'disappearing' buckle problem, if you own an Indy bag with this strap/buckle configuration you should have noticed where it goes. As you move the bag around you'll see that the strap rotates slightly around your torso. Depending on where my bag is at any given time the buckle can be just above my waist or almost up to my shirt collar. When this happens the buckle is usually hidden by my jacket.
