Well, I've used the elastic bands on the Wested (they only work on the hide, as they show through on the skin, and the skin is just to "floppy"). I've used spandex - sewn top to bottom all the way across. Again, the lack of rigidity left the pleats open and bowed the back of the jacket. Next a leather tailor reinforced the pleats as you describe. Each time he said, "This will work for about a week, and then you'll be back." He was right three times. It looked great for about two or three days before it let loose and looked even worse. Finally, the jacket was basically ruined. I got rid of it and picked up the US Wings kangaroo skin. Sorry, but I'll never buy another Wested...
