First he used cowhide with a cotton mesh backing. The problem there is that the movement of the leather over time loosens the backing. Eventually, he glued a strip of belt leather straight against the lambskin. This worked ok for a few days, but the problem comes in with matching the grain - the two peices of leather will "fight" each other, and eventually the poor lambskin gets beat by the cowhide. The result is a jacket that really looks like crap.
