If your making a film/tv series, etc. that takes place prior or after
the Indy years (as we know them) using R. Phoenix, and whom ever else you decide,
that's fine. Look at the Jack Ryan character. Good Character...although
Ford didn't (and won't continue to) create the character...but to
fix that problem..Hunt took place early in Ryan's years..and the new one
with Affleck?, will take place early as well. That's the only exception
to the rule..I feel anyhow...but then again,

Why do we continue to press for explanation..as in...why must we know
the background of Abner...Marion......Sallah....even Brody...Is nothing sacred?
Are we that caught up in an information/voyueristic age that we must
know everything? Why can't you just conform your own reasons? Must
it be displayed in front of you? Write the books (and there are
some good and horrible ones out there.) draw the comic books....
Create fan stories...but why make a film with new people telling stories
that don't need to be told.... I hope in 20 years we aren't having
discussions on "we need to actually SEE the dinosaurs being made instead
of just having them there in Jurassic Park" or we need to "SEE Jaw's motivation
for killing hapless swimmers...we need to see Jaws childhood trama with
a boat." Grant it, not all Indy stories evolve around relationships and such,
but one other thing that kept Indy apart from the rest was his ability
to save the world and go undetected. Keep adding story after story
and eventually it'll be Indiana Jones saves the world. At this point
in the characters career, he's known in his field just enough to be
considered really good...but not enough to draw huge amounts of outside interest.

That's a totally seperate argument though that'll probably bring an
onslaught of replies from folks who don't realize you don't know
how good something is, until you screw it up.
