Yes, Michaelson and I have discussed the properties of deerskin, and his point is well taken - on all leathers/tanning processes. Where you live will determine the characteristics of the leathers you should be considering.

As for here in the dry and hot Southern California climate - deer seems to be the choice, especially for the Californai Highway Patrol customers Flight Suits sells to. I get conflicting info on deer in wet climates, and have heard stories about it not holding its shape. It appears that some of the traditional Native American methods (brain tanning, most notably) may be the culprits here. Regardless, I'd probably opt for veg tanned leathers if I still lived in Seattle.

Enthusiasm? Well, maybe a bit. It sounds like the proper choice for me. Each should make an informed decision - I guess that's why we do this - right?
