submarine pen antics?

watched that stinkin' raiders movie again last night...
that scene wherein Rene says, at the sub pen, "the one, true auk" (I have no idea why he's talking about giant flightless birds)...
Anyway, I just noticed the guard with the machine gun prodding Marion on along the gangway has his head bandaged and his arm in a sling...
This must be why she and Rene exchange such mean looks as they disembark...
And who the heck is Dennis Muran (besides being an erstwhile spy)?
If this is some Star Wars thing, please tell me a lie instead.
