That doesn't make sense because.......

I think that maybe it has something to do with the temperature being raised from the sunlight...causes something to expand or contract due to heating/expansion or cooling/shrinking. Or maybe it is some sort of photo-sensitive organic material...or maybe leftover alien technology . I really don't know...I just know that the pressure plate idea doesn't make sense.....-DF
