My friend tried the same statement. I found out he was just saying hit so his ego wouldnt be hurt, and he could retain his dignity for not having any of the authentic stuff. I personly have grown an interst in other "Indy like" stuff, and no one on this board can't say he hasnt learned more about leather than their ever going to need to know. I personaly prefer a good pair of cargo pants with my Indy costume. So I guess there are limits on how much one would want to change it.
