Sources for Leather Shoulder MKVII bag strap?

I spent some time today looking for a 6' leather strap to make one out of, with no results. Anybody know a good online source? If I do try and make one myself or have to have one made, what is the correct length of strap to start with and what is the correct width for the strap? Also, is it reccomended to change out the grey metal rings with brass ones, and how would that be done without re-sewing?
