You're right. They could've gotten Jonathan Winters to play Marcus in LC. His part was very important, and his classic line ("Water? No thank you, madame. Fish make love in it...") was great. But he was more than a tad on the bufoonish side. Its like the Dr. Watson character as played by Nigel Bruce in the old Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies.
