: 5.5 eh? that seems to be the way to go..
: Joe Jr. had recommended 5 7/8, but I think 5.5 is the way to go
: to play it safe..

There is a method to my madness. I am basing all of this on my 2 PB fedoras. On my first fedora I specified a 5 3/4 open crown. Joe sent me the 5 1/2 inch variety. The pinch on the front was only 4 1/2 inches, but I steamed it and pushed up the front pinch up to 4 3/4. Indoing this, the top bash had to be made shallower. After doing this, I immediately noticed that I had in my hand the first hat that ever looked like a Raiders fedora, and I have owned a bunch of hats. These dimensions gave me a squared off crown, and a dead ringer. My next fedora from PB came in at the 5 7/8 open crown height. With the pinch at the same 4 3/4 height, this hat doesn't have that squared off look. I could modify it easily to match my first hat, by extending the front pinch up to say 5 inches, but I like the way it looks. It is like the fedora worn in the bar scene with Marion. By the way, I wear a 7 1/4. One thing about PB's Indy fedoras, no matter what the specs, these hats look really Indyish. Regards, Fedora
