That did give me a better understanding of where your coming from, but I
still disagree on the Marcus Brody issue. I've heard that Spielburg
did Raiders only as a B-rate action film and never anticipated greater
things. That can be proven with all the budget cuts, but
I don't know why Lucas would think he had a masterpice (even though
star wars was big at that point.) I enjoyed your points and quotes
taken from Raiders to prove your 'intellectual marcus' theory...but
just by knowing real people who are extremely smart...I've noticed
they are always at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to street
smarts and common sense. I do think Marcus was a bit too 'stupid' in
LC, but there's no doubt that it was for comedy. One other point is
we only see Marcus at the University. Marcus never catches on to be an
adventurous type...that's undebatable...so when we finally do see him
on one...especially one with Indy...he acts that way because he doesn't
know any better.

One point you didn't mention which surprises me since you are really into
character development is the "fortune and glory" "belongs in a museum"
switches that take place from childhood to archeologist. That's kind
of off topic..but I'm curious to hear your view on that.
