It was my understanding that the leather used on the pre-D jacket was distressed prior to the jacket being assembled, resulting in an appearance which is equally distressed across the entire jacket. I recall a post from someone saying it looked very "artificial". I think perhaps Wested used to actually used to distress their jackets with the rocks in a dryer technique, but this may no longer be the case. I would try and get a confirmation from one of the IndyGear site guys to confirm this.
