Hey:
"Short Round" was the name of Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck's dog. They are the screenplay writers of 'Temple of Doom.' So, the name is in the tradition of naming characters after pets in the Indy films. I seem to remember hearing that "Willy" was the name of another person's pet closely involved with the film, though I can't remember who.
