: : Just read Patterson's post concerning the letter from HJ dated in 96. I have one question for you HJ ownners. Does anyone out there have an HJ with a 6 1/4 inch crown height? I have had several people in the past measure their Hj for me, and no one has ever reported a crown height this tall. In fact, no one has ever reported a crown height over 5 1/2 inches, with many coming in shorter than this. And this is the first time I have ever heard that the brim was 2 7/8 x 2 3/4. Once and for all, I want the correct specs nailed down, so we can set this in concrete, and move on. I am beginning to suspect that even HJ doesn't know the correct specs. It is hard for me to believe, that the tallest hat(Raiders) of the 3 was 6 1/4 before bashing. We would be approaching the ten gallon hat style for a guy who reportedly wears a 7 1/4, or is it 7 3/8. No one apparently knows for sure. And something else that bugs me is the reporting of this ET installment. Is there anyone who can report what was said without drifting off into the twightlight zone. I mean, some guy reported on the next film being shot in July of 2001 or 2002. I am so tired of the misinformation that is out there. If you don't have verifiable info, please don't waste our time here. Regards, Fedora

: That was Patterson guessing at the hat sizing in proportion to his large head. The letter actually said 6 inches for crown height.
: Back in August I asked Cueball For the measurements of his HJ and these are what he came back with:
: Size: 7 1/4
: Brim: 2 5/8"-sides, 2 7/8"-front and back
: Crown: 5 3/8" sides, 4 5/8" front and back.
: My PB's crown measures a bit shorter than Cueballs, and my open crown as ordered is 5 7/8, so 6" would be about right.
: Cueball also stated that HJ did a shoddy job of brim cutting as well as crown shaping which could account for the difference in brim widths. I would say these are the specs Mr. Swales has for the hat, but perhaps not always the measurements of the delivered hat. With these specs it seems one could get the "Raiders" look from an HJ, but most posts I've seen say it matches the "Last Crusade" look. Maybe the crown is 6", but has more taper in it. Perhaps Chris King could take the HJ off that amazing Harrison Ford head rendering and post the measurements for the forum. How about it?
: Cheers,

It would seem then, that the folks that e-mailed me their specs, must have received a shorter crown variety. There is more than one type of Poet out there. For the last couple of years here, it has been pretty well accepted that "the hat" came with a 5 5/8 inch open crown height. Check out some of the sites that give specs on the fedoras. I can even recall someone posting over a year ago about them talking to Swales, and said the hat was to have a 2 3/4 x 2 1/2 brim. I can recall IndyDiggs(I think!) giving these specs. Or perhaps Luger, can't recall exactly. So, it would seem these specs were false. One thing about this forum, there are folks here like Patterson, who fervently questions the status quo, and then spends time and energy on trying to get the facts. And of course, pissing some folks off in the process, who refuse to believe anything other than the misinformation they hold to be true. I have always felt that the Raiders hat was taller than many people said, but didn't think it was 6 inches tall. Now after recieving a 5 7/8 PB,. I think it was in fact this tall.I am still not completely convinced that the brim was 2 7/8 x 2 3/4, just doesn't look that wide to me,
but I do think that most of the hats used in Raiders, were dimensionally cut, and the variance was 1/8 inch, rather than 1/4. Regards, Fedora
