On the bag? One reason is Ford is a lot smaller than either of us, my friend!

On the Aldens - what you see is how they come. My original pair were neoprene soled (smooth, without any tread), with the heel being orthapedic rubber, built up to the proper height with leather (between the heel and the neoprene sole). The look was pretty accurate to the layers of leather they would use back then - just that the sole was neoprene.

To my knowledge, you can get 405's with treads by special order, but they come smooth from the factory.
