My Wested tag reads 42 and like yours, I could'nt wear a sweatshirt. Not that I would try as mine has the cotton lining. I suspect we have a similar build, I'm 6'and about 180. The FS 40 is plenty roomy for me and I do have to cinch the side staps to give a snugger fit. Unless you're long in the body, I would stay away from the tall size. However, I would consider getting some extra length in the sleeves as they seem to run short. Again, it may be worth your while to have a tailor take your measurments. This will help FS gage your exact needs without customizing the jacket too much. If you do decide to call, ask for Kathy or Victoria. They'll steer you right.
