Hello,
In answer to your questions.
1. The facing on the collar is indeed leather.
2. The expansion pleats differ in that they are deeper than the Wested and the seams line up the way they're supposed to. It closes when your hands are at your sides and opens when you stretch them forward. And no, they are not just pieces of leather that overhang the jacket
3. Depending on how wide your sholders are a 38 may do the trick. But remember, when you drop in size from a 40 to a 38, you lose some inches in the sholder. Again, if you have your measurements taken, the FS rep. will know what to steer you towards. You will need more length in the sleeves. With all of the different measurments that are going to affect your size choice, it's difficult to say what is going to work for you. If you're not happy with the jacket, they will take it back. However, with the type of modificaion you're looking for, just confirm it with the FS rep. This is always a good idea when dealing with this kind of money.
4. I personally prefer the durability and heaviness of the goat and it is less glossy. However, the real Indy jacket was lamb and the lamb in this jacket will only look better with time and use. Hope this helps.

Regards
Prescott
